Thirty-Five Kills

This print was my first illustration I did here in the bay in the fall 2024. I had been doing some cute small illustrations for my partner’s birthday each year and thought it would be fun to push my illustration styles a bit further. He loves horror and his birthday is around Halloween naturally so why not make a print that encapsulates just that?

I took one of his favorite movies: Halloween and turned it into a personified theme of him as “Jason” literally stabbing and killing the numbers “3” and “4”. It’s pretty graphic and NSFW, but probably one of my most favorite prints ive done in the last two years. Jason is seen holding a knife as he stands over ‘3’ and ‘4’ characters lying lifeless on the ground bleeding out. It’s a pretty graphic scene. He also sports a crop top bomber jacket of course with a 35 print across the chest.

Being a movie buff and fan of Kill Bill, I modeled the layout of the poster and color scheme similar to the Kill Bill movie franchise. Giving the poster design an impactful and punchy graphic visual with many blood splatters, organs falling out, and eyeballs missing. In the back of Jason you can also see the shadow of his former self that is the nod to the evil he just committed. Despite the messy gore, I loved the finished print.

I worked with a lovely studio in Oakland called Forthrite Printing. I worked with this lovely fellow named Conor who was amazing and did an excellent job brainstorming. He helped me pair down the color choices and really dial in on the punchy dark black color that I wanted which contrasted against the bright poppy yellow I got from French Paper.

My partner ended up loving it, and I might be looking to turn birthday numbers into a new series sometime in the future, so who knows, stay tuned!
